Our properties are situated around the Castril Valley area in the Northern Granada region of Andalucia. The area is surrounded by National Parks. The landscape is dramatic and unspoiled, with semi-desert plains, lush canyons, olive and almond groves and fragrant pine forests. This is real Spain, a million miles from the overdeveloped coast.
Castril is the nearest village, with traditional cobbled streets and white washed houses. There is a Friday morning market selling everything from juicy red peppers to solid pine front doors. There are banks, a tobacconist and newsagent, DIY stores, bakers, small supermarkets, a garage and much more. Baza de Cortes is the nearest city with an abundance of shops, banks, supermarkets etc and a huge market each Wednesday.
Castril has its annual The Bull Festival on the first weekend of each October.
The weather is hot and dry, with over 320 days of sunshine each year. In winter, days are on average 12 c, mainly sunny, with clear blue skies. Night time temperature can drop considerably, perfect for curling up in front of your wood-burner with a hot nightcap.
About 30 km's away is stunning Lake Negratin, over 31 km long. It is a shimmering clear turquoise blue with a backdrop of pink rocks, and a perfect spot for swimming and water sports. The lake has beaches with pedaloes, canoes, restaurants and a famous thermal baths located at Zujar.
